Bio
Robert Pugh

Prostate cancer has hit the Pugh family hard. Robert’s father-in-law died of prostate cancer at 44 and today Robert, a radar systems engineer from Bedford, Mass., is battling the disease himself. In addition, Robert’s brother is a prostate cancer survivor.

“The most important motivation is to further prostrate cancer awareness and research,” Robert says. “This is especially personal to me as my son, Bill, faces an exceptionally high risk of prostate cancer … The appeal of the climb is the fellowship with a group of men who have also faced prostate cancer.”

The family’s first does of bad news came in 1999 when Robert’s wife Barbara was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She died a year later.

“Telling my kids they were going to lose their mother was one of the hardest things I have done. Then I had to add that their dad was also facing a very serious cancer. It was a very difficult time, but they came through and we remain a very close family … I have worked to survive my disease by remaining active and looking forward.”
