PROSTATE CANCER CLIMB Bio
On April 2, 2000 I turned 53, attended a Bob Dylan concert and for the first time heard the words, You have cancer, Hestad recalls. The end of April 2000 I had the radical surgery. In February of 2001 my cancer recurred, but we have successfully treated it with hormone therapy and it remains remission. To say the least, Prostate Cancer has marked a major turn in my life and that of my family, Hestad says, but he also adds, I feel very strongly that by climbing Kilimanjaro we can show that it is not the end, but the beginning of new challenges and opportunities. A devoted family man and rugged outdoorsman, Hestad has
overcome his disease to climb such peaks as Mt. Baker, Wash. and Mt. Whitney,
Calif.
Proceeds of the Prostate Cancer Climb will go exclusively to funding education and research. Distribution of the Hap Weyman Memorial Prostate Cancer Project Fund will be determined by the Independent Educational Research Funding Committee (IERFC). |
