Introducing John Loesing,
Journalist and Trekker for the Prostate Cancer Climb

Only recently have men begun to overcome their fears of prostate cancer and confront the possibility that one in six of them will die from the disease. The statistics are staggering considering that new prevention and treatment methods could prevent many cases from becoming life threatening.

Only recently has awareness for prostate cancer begun to take hold. It's my hope that after completing the Prostate Cancer Climb, new attention might be be given to the disease so that more lives can be saved and more loved ones spared.

My parents, both 78 years old, died of cancer related causes in 1998. My mother had lung cancer and my father had prostate cancer. My father was a heavy smoker who also contracted lung disease. It was no consolation when he told me, "Don't worry son, more men die with prostate cancer than from prostate cancer."

Because of diet and lifestyle, more and more young men are being afflicted with the disease. The only known cure is early detection and treatment. Yes, most older men will eventually have at least some prostate issues, but death need not be their sentence.

I began taking PSA (prostate cancer indicator) tests as early as age 38 because of my family history and my own bouts with chronic prostatitis.

As the journalist on The Prostate Cancer Climb, I will bring to you the stories of the brave men on our team, those who are willing to climb tall mountains in order to save lives.

But I need your help.

Please donate to our worthy cause.

Sincerely,
John Loesing
