PROSTATE CANCER CLIMB
Mount Aconcagua, Argentina - January, 2001
To Benefit
Hap Weyman Memorial Prostate Cancer Fund
of the Prostate Cancer Research Institute

In early 2001, a group of men dedicated to fighting prostate cancer climbed Mount Aconcagua, one of the highest peaks in the world. Located in Mendoza, Argentina, Mount Aconcagua rises 7,000 meters above sea level and offers climbers breathtaking beauty as well as serious climbing challenges.

On January 15th, 2001, along with 14 other mountaineers, we tackled Aconcagua along the "False Polacus" route. Prostate Cancer had touched all of the climbers in some way and several are carriers and survivors of the disease. We ALL want to see an end to this disease and we climbed the "Stone Sentinel" to prove our commitment to the cause.

The Prostate Cancer Climb Project is the inspiration of Dr. Terry Weyman, who lost his father to prostate cancer 10 years ago. The project is primarily a volunteer effort, and is affiliated with the Prostate Cancer Research Institute in order to provide the structure, accountability and recommendations on allocation of funding necessary for success.

The climb was so successful on many levels. We put the oldest man into basecamp, Bob Butler 75; we put a cancer patient higher than any before him, Bob Each 16,000' twice; and on January 27th at 3pm, Dr. Terry Weyman stood on the Roof of the Americas for all Men as a symbol of triumph.

This was a low-overhead project, with the primary goal being to raise $1 million to benefit prostate cancer research and public education. Due the success of this climb and the overwhelming response, The Prostate Cancer Climb will live on. We hope to climb a mountain a year and to get men back into the mountains for their disease. If you want to help in anyway or get involved, drop us an e-mail for opportunities in sponsorship, donations and further information.

Proceeds of the Prostate Cancer Climb will go exclusively to funding education and research. Distribution of the Hap Weyman Memorial Prostate Cancer Project Fund will be determined by the Independent Educational Research Funding Committee (IERFC).
